My paintings of 2009 were inspired by images I encountered while hiking with a group of senior women in the nearby mountains. I was alert, searching for subjects to paint and my attention was grabbed by the diversity of tree barks, stumps, rocks, and pieces of wood. Avoiding slowing down the hiking pace of the group, I rapidly caught with my camera as many images of interest I could. Later at home I analyzed them, expecting to learn, find and decide how to use them in my paintings.

My long desire to make larger paintings materialized by joining six of my 2008 small 20”x20” canvases into a big 40”x60” painting – Jones Island Rocks. To make canvases stand together I connected them with thin wood lath and screws.
